Most pest control companies in the Harrisburg area handle homes and offices — not barns, free-stall dairies, broiler houses, sheep flocks, or apiaries. Agricultural pest work requires different products, different application methods, different timing, and the certifications to legally apply them on food-producing animals and their facilities. We have those certifications, and we work with the realities of farm operations: tight schedules around milkings and animal moves, label restrictions on lactating dairy and laying birds, organic certification considerations, and pre-harvest intervals.
Stable flies, horn flies, face flies, and house flies cost dairy and beef operations real money in reduced milk production, weight gain, and animal stress. We provide premise sprays, residual barn treatments, fly bait stations, and back rubber/oiler programs. We work around milking schedules and label restrictions on lactating dairy. For organic-certified operations, we have OMRI-listed product options.
Northern fowl mites, chicken mites (red mites), and lice cause hens to stop laying, lose feathers, and become anemic in serious infestations. Treatments depend on the production system — layers vs broilers vs backyard flocks — and on whether the birds are housed or pastured. We treat the housing structure as well as the birds where appropriate, and we adjust products to laying status and label restrictions.
External parasite control for keds, lice, and biting flies on sheep and goats. We work with shepherds and goat producers on barn treatments, dipping/pour-on programs, and pasture-aware management. We do not handle internal parasite (worming) protocols — that's a vet/livestock manager call — but we coordinate with what your existing program looks like.
Varroa is the single biggest threat to managed honey bee colonies. As working beekeepers ourselves, we provide varroa monitoring, treatment recommendations, and product application for commercial and sideliner apiaries. We can apply formic acid, oxalic acid (vapor and dribble), thymol-based products, and synthetic miticides as appropriate to the season and queen status. Sister apiary operation The Alleman Apiary — we know varroa management from the inside.
Beyond varroa, managed apiaries face small hive beetle, wax moth, American foulbrood, European foulbrood, and various viruses. We provide inspection services and pest pressure assessments for beekeepers who want a second set of eyes on their operation, plus treatment applications when warranted.
We provide agricultural pest services across Central Pennsylvania, including Dauphin, Cumberland, Lebanon, Perry, York, and surrounding counties. Farm distance and operation size factor into scheduling — call to discuss your specific operation. We work with dairy operations, beef cattle, layer and broiler poultry, sheep, goats, and managed apiaries.
Yes. We're a licensed Pennsylvania pesticide applicator with agricultural categories required for livestock and farm pest applications. We handle restricted-use products legally and follow all label restrictions on food-producing animals. Honey bees are concidered agriculture.
Yes. We have OMRI-listed and organic-compatible product options for many livestock and apiary applications. We coordinate with your organic certifier's requirements and document treatments as needed for your records.
Pricing depends on operation size (head count, barn square footage), level of pressure, and whether you want a one-time treatment or seasonal program. Most dairy and beef operations are best served by a seasonal fly management program rather than reactive single treatments. Call us for an on-farm walk-through and estimate.
Both. We work with backyard flocks, small-scale layer operations, and commercial poultry houses. The treatment plan and products differ significantly between systems — call us with your operation details and we'll scope appropriately.
Yes. Through our sister company, The Alleman Apiary, we offer beekeeping mentorship and hands-on training including varroa monitoring (alcohol wash, sugar roll) and treatment selection. Most established beekeepers benefit from doing their own treatments once they understand the seasonal protocol.
